I’m behind in every conceivable area of life today and to make it better I somehow managed to miss my first alarm and I’m about to be late for work, again. As soon as I get out to my car I notice that my back passenger side tire is completely flat, and looks like it has been for a while. It would appear that in my busy work schedule stupor seem to have missed it. The tire is all but bald and there are now some sharp bits sticking out of the tire. Today, fate is not my friend. Fate might even be mocking me at this point. I’ve never had to change a tire before. I know that I have a spare, and maybe have the things to change the tire, but that doesn’t change that I have NO IDEA what I’m doing. There is no time to wait around for AAA to get here and help me out of this mess. So with my trusty cell phone and Google app, I am prepared to change my own tire. How hard could it be?

Somehow I’ve managed to get together the jack, wrench, spare tire, and what little dignity I have left, together to make this happen. Having removed the hubcap, less than gracefully, off of the wheel and in lieu of wheel wedges, have located some bricks next to my back porch that can be used to stabilize the car. I’m feeling moderately more prepared do actually do this. Following Google as though it is the messiah I have loosened the lug nuts, ONLY loosened, and not yet removed completely. Now comes the tricky part, setting up the jack.

Never in my life have I had to jack my car up so this part was some kind of sorcery. After locating a small cleared space of metal under the car specifically for the jack, and stabilizing the jack with a piece of wood also found by my deck I feel ready to get this car off the ground. Once I completely removed the lug nuts the rest of the way, I start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and I’m FINALLY ready to remove the tire and get the spare in its place. With the new tire in place, I have reattached and tightened the lug nuts with as much strength as my poor little noodle arms could muster. Not gonna lie, it’s not much, but once I got the tire back on the ground I tightened them with the wrench anyway. Having lowered the car back to the ground and ACTUALLY tightened the lug nuts with the wrench, I have taken the jack out from under the car and put it back in my car, just in case, because my luck lately has not been great.

I’ve gotten the hubcap back on and even checked the tire pressure to make sure I can actually drive with this tire safely. All in all the whole process took me about 30 minutes, not too shabby. Granted, I am still 100% late for work, but at this point, I’m not super concerned. After work I will have to stop by Younger Nissan of Frederick to get myself a new tire, because this spare tire is NOT meant to be driven long distances, fortunately, they are on my way home from work so I can get there safely and all will be well.

Hopefully, if this ever happens to you, my experience helps you to know how to change your tire too. It’s not as hard as it sounds, but definitely, make sure you get over to a service center to get yourself a new tire. Younger Nissan of Frederick saved my skin with that new tire. I can safely say that I will be more aware of the state of my tires and be sure to service them more frequently.

Get Your Tires Serviced Today

Changing My Tires With Google and a Dream My week has already started out strong.
