June is right on the horizon and the Younger Nissan team is sure that you are already planning out your next road trip! Before you hit the road it is a good idea to give your vehicle a tune-up! If you’re a DIY person this week’s blog is gonna be right up your alley! Take a look at our steps below and learn how to do your own oil change!But, we understand not everyone is mechanically savvy, so if you feel like you aren’t skilled enough to perform this project, no problem, just schedule a service appointment and we can complete your oil change for you! However, if you know your way around the hood of your vehicle, this could be a fun project and could even save you some money! Check it out below, now! Younger Nissan’s Guide To A DIY Oil Change: Make sure you have the proper tools: Different wrenches work best for different cars the best to choose from are Filter Pliers, Band Wrench, Strap Wrench, Cap Wrench, or Expandable Cap Wrench. Pull the plug - Unscrew the plug and quickly pull it out and away from the oil stream. Clean the drain plug and install a new gasket (if required). Remove the oil filter: Screw off the old oil filter and make sure the rubber gasket comes with it! If not, peel it from the engine yourself. Add fresh oil: Refill the engine by using a funnel (it’s super messy if you don’t)! Recycle the old oil: put your old oil into a large jug and bring it to a recycling center. Run your engine for a few minutes until the dashboard oil light goes out. Wait a few minutes. Then check the dipstick and add oil if needed. Some tips from the experts: If the engine is cold, start it and let it run for five minutes to warm the oil. If it’s hot, wait at least 30 minutes to avoid getting burned. Always use jack stands. Never work under a car that’s supported by a jack only. Always hand-tighten the filter. Never use a filter wrench. Use new oil to coat the oil filter gasket before spinning it on. If you follow these steps you should be done changing your oil in about 20 minutes if you experience an issue or your check engine light doesn’t go off, bring your vehicle to a professional for a diagnosis.

This will aid in traction in the rear of your vehicle. And also keep a small shovel in the event you get stuck. Keep The Underside Of Your Vehicle Clean: It’s important to keep your vehicle clean all year long, but it’s especially important to keep the underside of your vehicle clean during the winter. Dirt, salt, and ice can accumulate underneath and cause erosion. Get a car wash on a warmer day and park your vehicle in the garage. Avoid Frozen Wiper Blades: Whether it’s a little snow or ice, no one likes frozen over wiper blades. We recommend leaving your wiper blades propped up when your vehicle is in park or place a pair of socks over the blades to keep them from freezing.
