INFOGRAPHIC: Nissan and BMW partner once again to expand DC Fast

Nissan To Aid In DC Fast Charger Access

Electric vehicles are quickly gaining popularity among the driving community. Unfortunately, there are areas of the country that just don’t have the infrastructure to support the growing need for charging stations. Well, luckily Nissan, BMW, and EVgo are teaming up to supply the country with an additional 50 dual-port DC fast chargers on top of the 174 that have already been built. Each location will offer a dual 50 kW DC Fast charging station with both CHAdeMO and SAE Combo (CCS) connectors, serving owners of both Nissan LEAF and BMW i3 electric cars, as well as all EV drivers in the U.S. whose vehicles - regardless of brand - are equipped with quick-charge ports. "Nissan continues as a leader in building accessible infrastructure to benefit Nissan LEAF drivers as well as all EV owners. Infrastructure for all is a key strategic priority for us as we continue expanding the network of dual-port quick chargers across the country," said JeSean Hopkins, senior manager, Nissan EV Infrastructure Strategy & Business Development. "We look forward to ongoing teamwork and the continued build-out of public quick-charge stations." It is important to the growth of the EV market that these stations keep being built. With the support of Nissan and BMW the public will have even more charging opportunities while on the road. These stations can charge EVs from Nissan and BMW up to 80 percent in about 25-30 minutes, as compared to the longer time required to recharge at a Level 2 (240V) charger, currently the most commonly available public charging station. Nissan Autonomous Driving Infographic

Nissan has released a new infographic about autonomous driving. Infographics are great because they offer bite sized pieces of information in a visually pleasing format. Since autonomous driving is intimidating to many this method of delivery is sure to convert some who are wary. We break the information down for you below. Why do we need autonomous driving? In one word, less. Less accidents, wasted time, cost, and emissions. Seems like a win-win-win-win to us. What does autonomous driving mean? Right now, there are five levels of autonomous driving ranging from assisted to fully automated. We’re still hovering between levels one and two. How does autonomous driving work? It’s both simple and complicated, kind of like how we drive. The car senses its surrounding situation and makes an inference. It then decides what to do using an algorithm and computer and then performs an action based on the algorithm. What can it do? Right now, our cars can recognize vehicles around us and lane markers. They can also detect when a vehicle crosses the lane markers. Expect the capabilities to expand rapidly. The last block on the infographic illustrates what Nissan wants to achieve in the near future. In short, they want to launch 10 models with autonomous driving capabilities before 2020 which have the ability for single- and multi-lane control as well as city driving.

IIHS Demonstrates Safety Standard Importance

You may have read blogs by us in which we mention the IIHS, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. We may have mentioned an award from them won by Nissan and listed the criteria that they have for safety standards. These high safety standards are put in place for our safety on the road and without them thousands of lives would be lost every year. To see what we mean, watch the video above. You’ll see how a vehicle made for the road in Mexico differs wildly from the 2016 Nissan Versa that was made to meet the strict standards of the IIHS. So next time you are in an accident, which hopefully won’t happen, remember to thank the IIHS for your safety.

A Clean Wheel Is A Happy Wheel

When you clean your car, where does cleaning your steering wheel rank? It’s probably close to the bottom if it’s on the list at all. But really, it should be close to the top. If you think about it your hands are on the wheel the most out of any part of your car and they are covered in body oil, lotion, dirt, sweat, germs, and a host of other things. It’s easy to see why you need to clean your steering wheel regularly. Luckily, the cleaning process is made up of two simple steps. First, using a damp cotton cloth with a small amount of leather cleaner, wipe away any dirt and grime on the surface. Rinse the cloth and wipe away the cleaner before drying with a soft towel. The second step is to rub on some leather conditioner with your hands. Let it sit for 30 minutes then wipe away anything that didn’t soak in. Use prepackaged quick wipes between deep cleans to cut down on surface grime. Easy, right?! De La Cuesta, Stefano. "How to Clean and Maintain Your Steering Wheel."
