In honor of National Tire Safety Week, Nissan has released a list of six helpful tips to help their customers to prolong the life of the tires on their vehicle. Tire safety is extremely important as damaged or improperly inflated tires can lead to serious issues. In fact, data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that a tire that is at least 25 percent below the recommended level will be three times more likely to cause a tire-related crash.
“Checking tire pressure for just a few minutes each month can help protect your family, improve vehicle performance and lengthen the life of tires,” said Sarah Cardinali, senior manager, Product Safety, Nissan North America. “Our innovative Easy-Fill Tire Alert system helps drivers fill their tires to their recommended inflation rating with ease.”
Nissan Tire Safety Tips:
1.) Don’t Overload – Do not to overinflate your tires since this has the potential to cause dangerous blowouts.
2.) Be Temperature-Conscious – Be sure to check your tire pressure more often during the colder months since the outside temperature can affect tire pressure.
3.) Avoid Obstructions – Do your best to avoid road hazards such as potholes and curbs which could cause damage to your tires.
4.) Know Your Target – Make sure that you know the recommended tire pressure level for your tires, you can find this information on the driver-side door jam.
5.) Rotate and Balance – In order to allow your tires to wear evenly you should have them balanced periodically and rotated about every 5,000-7,000 miles.
6.) Inspect visually – The best way to stay ahead of any potential tire issues is to perform regular visual inspections on your tires and look for signs of potential issues such as under-inflation, damage, or wear and tear.
Proper tire maintenance and safety is very important to Nissan which is why they created their Easy-Fill Alert System which takes the guesswork out of filling up your tires by having the vehicle monitor the process for you. Check out the video below to see how this system works.
