Younger Nissan of Frederick

Hey Nissan friends! Welcome back to another weekly blog from yours truly. This week we are diving deep into one topic that you might have never thought much about but that’s okay. We are talking about your vehicle’s dead battery! Yup! What caused it. How to avoid it. And what to do when it happens. We have you covered on all things battery this week and if you’re worried about your battery, give us a call or schedule your appointment online today! It’s time to get that battery in a healthy and happy condition – so let’s get started!

What Caused It –

  • Lack of battery maintenance
  • Not starting your vehicle for long periods of time
  • Leaving headlights, interior lights, flashers or the radio on when your vehicle isn’t running
  • Using the air conditioner or heat when your vehicle isn’t running
  • Low air temperatures, causing your battery to freeze
  • Failure of voltage regulator within the alternator

How To Avoid It –

  • Our #1 tip is to service your vehicle and keep a schedule so you know that your vehicle is regularly maintained. This goes for all aspects of your vehicle, not just the battery. This is crucial when temperatures start to drop or after long-distance road trips. We recommend having your battery tested and replaced as needed. Also ask about the terminals and hoses, if there is corrosion, clean it off and if there are bulges or cracks in the hoses, replace them.
  • Be smart with what you turn on and when you use it. Avoid using certain features like the radio, chargers, or lights for long periods of time without starting your vehicle. If you do this often, it can result in killing your battery as it puts a lot of strain on your vehicle.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures if possible. Extreme temperatures are killers of batteries and if you can avoid the weather, do so. Obviously, you can’t always but we encourage you to park your in your garage if you have one.

What To Do When It Happens –

  • Well, well, well, you got a case of the dead battery and what are you going to do about it? Jumping that battery is the best option you have. Flag down a passerby or a good samaritan that’s willing to help you! It’s a great idea to keep a set of jumper cables in your vehicle for safe measures. In addition, NEVER try to touch or jump-start a battery with visibly leaking acid or if it is cracked.
  • Roadside assistance is glorious and if you don’t have it, invest in it. Whether you run into a lot of issues on the road or not, having this can really be a lifesaver in the event that you need it. Plus, it’s nice having a little help here and there when you need it most!

Fall is basically here and that means it’s time to start the festivities! Some of us might hit the apple orchards, others might hit the road to check out the fall foliage, and some of us will hit the tailgate! That’s right, it’s football season and there is no better way to celebrate than with an amazing tailgate party! Whether you’re a veteran tailgater or heading out for your first time, this week’s blog is for you! The game just isn’t the same without the pre-game! So this week we are going to help you transform your Nissan from your family ride to a tailgating champ. So buckle up and get the cooler ready, because we are hitting the road for some serious fun!

Basics:

  • Every tailgate has basics, these include chairs, tables, food (it’s a must), drinks, coolers, plates, utensils, and a grill (be the grill master of the tailgate party)!

Take It Up A Notch:

  • Everybody can bring a grill and some food, but that doesn’t make them tailgate masters…take it to the next level with portable phone chargers, wireless speakers, and a portable satellite TV so that you and your guests can watch the pre-game action at the same time. You’ll definitely get some brownie points for that!

All Decked Out:

  • What is a tailgate without some team spirit?? Not a good one that’s for sure! Get all decked out, apparel, magnet decor for your vehicle, balloons, foam fingers, and don’t forget to serve the opposing team fans a burger on a paper plate that has your team’s decor…oh yeah, I went there!

Location:

  • You can have everything for the perfect tailgate party, but it won’t be enough without the right spot! Weather is never perfect, especially in the months ahead, so get there early and ensure you get the perfect spot that shelters your vehicle from the sun, wind, and rain away is generally a wise choice.

Now that you’ve all you need to know about how you can dominate the next tailgate, you have to be sure that your vehicle is up for the challenge. Don’t think so? No problem, we have an impressive inventory of vehicles for you to choose from and the pros here Younger Nissan of Frederick can help match you with the perfect ride for the tailgate and every aspect of your life. Schedule a test drive today!

Battery Power:

  • Making sure your battery is fresh is important. The experts say you should change your battery every 3 years, though you could get away with 5 depending on how much you drive…If you’re thinking to yourself “I can’t remember the last time I changed my battery,” it might be time to do so.
  • Make sure the cables are not loose. With the engine off, see if the cables can slip free from the nodes. Don’t yank, but be firm.
  • Check for corrosion, a white powder that forms around the nodes or clamps of your battery. You can clean this off using baking soda, water, and a toothbrush.

Fill your Fluids:

  • It might cost you a little bit more but invest in a “winter blend” type of windshield wiper fluid. These tend to have more alcohol in them and less water so the chance of freezing is less.
  • If your windshield washer fluid tank hasn’t been flushed in a few years then it could use it! Be sure not to mix colors; most antifreeze is green, blue, or yellow, but be sure not to mix colors.
  • Checking your vehicle’s oil is important. If you have not had an oil change in a long time, it might be time for one.

Additional Preventative Measures:

  • Buy an emergency kit with cables, a first aid kit, flares, a battery-powered air compressor, and other things that can prevent a minor inconvenience from becoming a major problem.
  • Check the clarity of all your lights.
  • Keeping the gas tank at half-filled can help prevent a fuel line freeze; so can that fuel-line antifreeze mentioned earlier.
  • Tire pressure is important in the snow, be sure that your vehicle’s tires are to the correct PSI.

Service Your Nissan For Fall! >> https://api.connectcdk.com/api/nc-cosa-consumer-ui/v1/?subscriptionid=&cid=2001588

Fall is just around the corner, which means hurricane season is almost here. Even though we might not be affected too badly here in Hagerstown, heavy rain is no stranger to us. If you’ve ever been stuck in the middle of a heavy rainstorm while driving, then you know it can be scary and stressful. That’s why this week we want to help prepare you with some tips and tricks in case you find yourself stuck in this position on the road. Another way to have better peace of mind is to service your vehicle regularly, especially after a long summer of travel. So go ahead, take a peek below and then head over to our site to schedule a service appointment today!

Driving in heavy rain:

  • Turn your headlights on – the Highway Code says you must use them when visibility is seriously reduced
  • Use fog lights if you like, but switch them off when visibility improves.
  • Leave twice as much space between you and the car in front – it takes longer to stop in the wet.
  • If your steering feels light due to hydroplaning, ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually.
  • If you break down don’t prop the bonnet open while you wait. Rain-soaked electrics can make it harder to start the engine.

Driving during floods and standing water

  • Try to avoid standing water if you can.
  • Don’t drive into flood water that’s moving or more than 4 inches deep. Let approaching cars pass first if you are unsure of the depth
  • Drive slowly and steadily so you don’t make a bow wave.
  • Test your brakes as soon as you can afterward. Water can have a damaging effect on brakes, make sure they are working properly before you continue to drive
  • Fast-moving water is very powerful: if strong enough your car could be swept away. Find an alternate route if the water is moving too fast to pass-through

Watch out for:

  • Look out for slip and trip hazards like curbs under the water.
  • Manhole covers can get lifted and moved.
  • Water levels can change quickly

Schedule Your Fall Service Appointment Now! >> https://api.connectcdk.com/api/nc-cosa-consumer-ui/v1/?subscriptionid=&cid=2001588

From the little things to the small stuff, the service team at Younger Nissan of Frederick can assist you with all of your vehicle needs. This week we are focusing on treating your vehicle to fall service before the season officially changes! Take a look at our guide below, schedule your service appointment online today, and be sure to grab a service offer before stopping in to see us! We look forward to working with you and your Nissan this season – see you soon!

Car Battery

  • With the changes of seasons coming quickly, it’s a great time to stop in to see our team for diagnostic testing to ensure that your battery is healthy and ready to take on the winter temperatures. Plus, ask to have your cables and terminals checked for corrosion and properly tightened. Winter is known for killing batteries, stop in, and let’s have your battery properly maintenanced before the change of seasons!

Headlights

  • As our cars age, our headlights tend to become cloudy or even hazy, especially on vehicles that are continuously parked outside in the elements. While the days get shorter, we will be using our headlights much more these days which means it’s very important to ensure that your headlights are the brightest they could possibly be. Whether it’s headlight conditioning, replacement of the bulbs, or replacing your headlights altogether, our team can assist you with all of your needs.

Tires

  • Responsible driving all starts at the tires. Monthly tread inspections can help you stay on top of when it’s time to replace your tires. If you have noticed that your tires are less than â…›-inch of tread, then it’s time to upgrade. While all-season tires might be a cheaper option upfront, choosing a set for both summer and winter, offers a more well-rounded performance. Stop in to see our team and let us help you choose the right tires for your vehicle!

Wipers

  • Did you know that it’s a great option to replace your wipers every six months? Typically, your wipers should be replaced twice a year to ensure top performance. Before the fall season, it’s a great option to upgrade those wipers and choose a pair that are specifically designed for winter weather as we are quickly heading that way. Also, if you’re looking to extend the lifespan of your wipers, we encourage you to clean them with a paper towel and glass cleaner each time you stop to get gas.
