Younger Nissan

The ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award has been awarded to Nissan for the fourth consecutive year. This honor was presented to the brand once again for its ongoing dedication to improving energy management and the reduction of greenhouse gasses. A few of these efforts include the use of an environmentally safe paint process that has reduced energy usage by 30%, more efficient LED lighting and performing repairs on compressed air leaks.

“Since Nissan became an ENERGY STAR partner in 2006, we have made continual improvements to our operations, which has helped us reduce both our environmental footprint and manufacturing costs,” said John Martin, senior vice president, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing. “In 2014, those improvements reduced the amount of energy required to build vehicles by 13 percent—that’s the same amount of energy it would take to power more than 5,400 homes for an entire year.”

In addition to the overall recognition, the Nissan Vehicle Assembly Plant in Smyrna, Tennessee also received ENERGY STAR Certification for the ninth consecutive year. Both of these impressive recognitions reinforce the goal set by the Nissan Green Program to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 20% by the year 2016.
