August is almost here, and marks back to school for many of our younger drivers! But before you pack up the car and hit the road for school, there’s a few things you should do to ensure you and your vehicle’s safety this back to school season. Below you will find 8 essential back to school car care tips to ensure you have peace of mind when you hit the road this year! So go ahead, take a peek below, and if you find that your vehicle is in need of maintenance or repairs, schedule an appointment with our certified service professionals today! Looking to upgrade this school year? Slip behind the wheel of a new Nissan from Younger Nissan of Frederick just in time for school!Â
Top off all the fluids
- Regular oil changes are a must, but that isn’t the only fluid you should be keeping an eye on in your vehicle.
- Â Keep an eye out for transmission, brakes, coolants, and more. Clean fluids help your engine run smoothly, while dirty fluids can cause damage.Â
Take a peek at your lights.Â
- Headlight or taillight out? Lights out on your vehicle are very dangerous. A burned-out headlight can impair your ability to see the road clearly, increasing the risk of a flat tire or accident. While a burnt-out taillight can make it hard to see you.Â
- Simply turn your lights on while the car is in park, and walk around the entire vehicle to make sure your headlights, rear lights, blinkers, and hazards are functioning properly.Â
- Not only will this keep you safe, but it will keep you from getting a pulled over/ a ticket.Â
- If you need replacement, just schedule a service appointment today.
Keep Your Tires Properly InflatedÂ
- Improper tire pressure can cause you to get fewer miles per gallon? It can also increase wear and tear, resulting in a need to replace the tires sooner than normal, and becoming very costly.Â
- To keep your tires in tip-top shape, keep a tire gauge in your car and check the pressure monthly.Â
- Check for wear and tear by utilizing the “penny test” by inserting an upside-down penny in the tread groove. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to get new tires.
Don’t forget your wipers
- You don’t want to be driving down the highway, and go to use your wipers and have no washer fluid! Your windshield wiper fluid needs to be topped off to ensure you have good visibility in poor weather.Â
- Wiper blades need regular replacement too, usually every six to twelve months.
CH-CH-CHARGE IT UP
- Don’t find yourself getting out of a class only to find your battery has died.Â
- If your car is sluggish to start or if the dashboard lights or radio are giving you trouble, it may be a sign you need a new battery.Â
- Batteries only last three to five years, so if you’ve had yours a long time, it’s probably time for a new one.Â
- If you find you need a replacement, your mechanic can test your battery during routine maintenance and oil changes.
Check your seatbelts—and wear them.Â
- Buckle up and stay safe this school year. Simply wearing a properly fitted seatbelt saves thousands of lives each year.Â
- It’s one of the most effective ways to avoid serious injury in an accident. Airbags alone are not enough to protect you.Â
- Make sure your seatbelt is secured tightly across the pelvis and rib cage.Â
Take a break and get your brakes checked
- It’s no secret that your brakes are a crucial part of your drive.Â
- Worn brakes can make it hard to stop quickly and can cause your car to travel farther before coming to a halt — making it more likely you’ll find yourself in an accident.Â
- To avoid that, a professional mechanic should check your vehicle’s brakes regularly, preferably as part of a routine maintenance check performed during regular oil changes.
Pack an emergency kit just in case
- It’s never a bad idea to be prepared! Items you’ll want to keep in your car in case of trouble include a flashlight, tire repair kit, first aid items, a basic tool kit (lug wrench, screwdriver, hammer), jumper cables, hazard triangle, a blanket, and even a small amount of cash.
If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, you understand how frustrating finding a new vehicle can be. However, when you’ve finally narrowed down your choice, you get to do the fun part…test drive those vehicles! Test drives are really important to help you decide which vehicle is right for you! However, test drives can be overwhelming! With so many new features to try and lots of information being thrown at you, it’s easy to forget to ask questions or even pay attention to important details like how do you feel in the vehicle, how does it drive, and how will your passengers feel. But don’t sweat it! This week, we have a checklist of important tips and tricks to help you remember what you should be looking for during your test drive! So take a minute to peek below, and even print out the checklist and bring it with you when you stop in to test drive!Â
Come Prepared
- Make sure you’ve done your research and know exactly what you’re looking forÂ
- To prepare make sure you can answer these questions…
- What kind of space do you need?
- Do you feel like you have enough room?
- What kind of budget do you have?
- Once you’ve answered those questions, it’s time to find 2 or 3 vehicles that fit the criteria you’re looking for.Â
- Once you have done that be sure to schedule test drives for those vehiclesÂ
How Do You Feel About The Vehicle?
- First impressions can have a big impact on your decision making. Don’t just focus on the fun features the vehicle has, be sure to pay attention to how you feel inside the vehicle.Â
- A few things to ask yourself during your test should be…
- Can you see yourself driving this vehicle daily?
- Do you feel like you have enough room?
- Is it easy to get in and out of?
- Do you like the placement of the controls?
- Is it what you expected?
Take Your Test Drive In Familiar TerritoryÂ
- If the dealership is local this should be easy, if not, take it on the highway and down back roads/ neighborhood or area that is similar to your area.Â
- Make sure to test it both busy and light traffic, and be sure to park the car to see how different it is from your old vehicle.Â
Test ALL Of The Features
- You might think you need the backup camera or other fun available features, but they won’t be worth it if you don’t know how to use them. Don’t be afraid to ask your sales consultant to show you how to use them and be sure to try them out on the road!
Take A Seat In Every Seat
- Even if you’ll be spending most of your time in the driver’s seat, it’s important to try out the vehicle from every perspective…you wouldn’t want your passengers to be uncomfortable, right?
- Sit in the passenger seat, the back seat, fold down the second row, pop the trunk, look under the hood. Explore every different way the vehicle might be used to make sure that it will work for you and your needs.

Get your fireworks ready because the 4th of July is almost here! If you’ve volunteered to host this weekend’s festivities, you might be regretting that now. As always, the holiday sneaks up on us and now you’re left with just days to get everything in order. But don’t stress, because this week’s blog is dedicated to helping you do just that! Below you will find tips and hacks for your 4th of July part that won’t break the bank or your sanity! So take a peek and get started on your to-do list below and have a safe and fun holiday weekend!Â
It’s All About The Game:
- Put out a variety of yard games, such as cornhole, ring toss, ladder ball, bocci ball, a football, baseball and gloves for playing catch, and frisbees.Â
Slide Into Summer:
- The 4th of July marks a big milestone in summer, tell your guests to soak up the sun in their bathing suits while having some good old fun with a slip and slide! Perfect for the kids too!Â
Keep The USA Theme Going:
- When the water fun wears off, keep your guests entertained with playful buckets filled with July-themed tattoos, stars and striped pinwheels, “snapper” fireworks, sparklers, themed candy, and glow bracelets for when the sun goes down
Soak Up The Sun Safely:
- Keep guests safe with plenty of sunscreen and bug spray close at hand. Set out little buckets with sunscreen and bug spray in several different places on the deck, patio, and backyard, so guests never have to look far to find some and reapply.Â
S’more Food The Better:
- If you have a fire pit in your backyard, consider setting up a fun s’mores buffet for your guests. Think beyond the Hershey bar and include a variety of chocolate options including the traditional milk chocolate, Hershey’s Cookies & Cream bars, dark chocolate options, and even Reese’s peanut butter cups.Â
DIY Decorating:Â
- Keep the budget low with fun DIY decorations! Look around your home to see what you already have on hand that could fit your Fourth of July party’s red, white, and blue theme. Â
- Mason jars, empty cans, plastic bottles, wine bottles, etc, can all be transformed into cheap and easy centerpieces, utensils holders, or candy displays!
Teamwork Makes The Dream Work:
- Consider making your party a potluck. When it comes to food, summer potlucks are a great option for large parties. Helps bring a variety of food to your party without having to break the bank and slave in the kitchen for days beforehandÂ
