Fall is here and before we know it the temperature outside will be dropping low, and for those that donât know. So will your tireâs PSI! Your tireâs PSI is really important when it comes to the handling of your drive and the safety of you and your passengers. To avoid an accident or damage to your Nissan, we suggest keeping an eye on your tire pressure. How do you do that? Weâre so glad you asked! Below youâll find everything you need to know about inflating your tires to the right PSI and some tips and tricks for keeping your tires in tip-top shape this fall. As always, if you need assistance with your service, be sure to schedule your service appointment with us today!Â
Why itâs important to check your tire pressureâŚ
- Your safetyÂ
- Longer lasting tires
- Improved handling and control
- Reduced risk of accidents and blowouts
- Better fuel economy
- Reduced carbon footprint
Tips for Checking and Filling Your Tires
- When the temperature drops, we suggest checking your tire pressure.Â
- Outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees.
Whatâs the right PSI level?
- Â The recommended PSI for your vehicleâs tires is determined by the vehicleâs manufacturer and the recommended tire size.
- You can find this information in your ownerâs manual or on the placard inside of the door edge, glove box door, or fuel door.
- In most newer vehicles, your vehicle will alert you when your vehicleâs tires fall below the recommended PSIÂ
- Do NOT use the max PSI that is printed on the tire sidewall. The pressure amount on the tire is normally the maximum allowed pressure.Â
- Over-inflation can lead to poor handling and comfort, overheating, and blowouts.
How to properly inflate your tires.
- If you do not have air at home, most gas stations have an air pump for you to use.Â
- Remove dust caps from the tiresâ valve stems.
- Insert your tire gauge into the tire valve and leave it in for a few seconds
- When you remove it, the gauge will provide a PSI reading
- If the tire gaugeâs recorded reading is higher than the manufacturer-recommended rating, press the gauge tip on the valve stem until you hear air leak out. Check the tire pressure again.
- If the reading is lower than recommended, you will need to fill the tire with air.Â
- When filling the tire, firmly press the air-hose into the valve, as you did with the tire gauge
- When you think youâve added or let out enough air, check the pressure a few times with the gauge.
- Return the valve dust caps.

Service To CompleteâŚ
Inspection:
- The place to start is with an inspection. This is the best way to narrow down the service/ maintenance your vehicle needs most.Â
- This will include important checks like battery check, fluids, belts, hoses, lights, and moreÂ
- These are important to catch now because as temperatures fall, components can worsenÂ
Tire Tread
- Your tire tread is extremely important, especially during the upcoming winter months. If your tire tread is low or bald, you have no grip on slick and icy roads
- The proper tread depth should be at least 2/32â
- If you need a simple way to check your tire depth, utilize the penny test
- Penny Test How To: With Lincolnâs head facing downwards, place the penny into several grooves of a tire. If you can see the top of his head, your tread depth is worn too low and itâs time to replace your tires
- If youâre in heavy snow areas, you should invest in snow tires – which have proven to provide better traction than all-season tires.
- Keep an eye out for more than just tread depth. Look for intense light exposure, puncture holes, or anything thing else
Windshield Wiper Maintenance
- Often overlooked, but the real MVP of winter driving, windshield wipers are extremely important all year round, especially during the winter months
- When snow, sleet, hail, etc. are falling at you, you need a good pair of wipers to keep your visibility clearÂ
- Examine your blades for breaks, tears, streaking, etc.Â
- If youâve had your wipers for more than 6 months, itâs a good idea to replace themÂ
- If you get a lot of snow, looking into purchase wipers specifically for snow/winter weather

Top off all the fluids
- Regular oil changes are a must, but that isnât the only fluid you should be keeping an eye on in your vehicle.
- Â Keep an eye out for transmission, brakes, coolants, and more. Clean fluids help your engine run smoothly, while dirty fluids can cause damage.Â
Take a peek at your lights.Â
- Headlight or taillight out? Lights out on your vehicle are very dangerous. A burned-out headlight can impair your ability to see the road clearly, increasing the risk of a flat tire or accident. While a burnt-out taillight can make it hard to see you.Â
- Simply turn your lights on while the car is in park, and walk around the entire vehicle to make sure your headlights, rear lights, blinkers, and hazards are functioning properly.Â
- Not only will this keep you safe, but it will keep you from getting a pulled over/ a ticket.Â
- If you need replacement, just schedule a service appointment today.
Keep Your Tires Properly InflatedÂ
- Improper tire pressure can cause you to get fewer miles per gallon? It can also increase wear and tear, resulting in a need to replace the tires sooner than normal, and becoming very costly.Â
- To keep your tires in tip-top shape, keep a tire gauge in your car and check the pressure monthly.Â
- Check for wear and tear by utilizing the âpenny testâ by inserting an upside-down penny in the tread groove. If you can see the top of Lincolnâs head, itâs time to get new tires.
Donât forget your wipers
- You donât want to be driving down the highway, and go to use your wipers and have no washer fluid! Your windshield wiper fluid needs to be topped off to ensure you have good visibility in poor weather.Â
- Wiper blades need regular replacement too, usually every six to twelve months.
CH-CH-CHARGE IT UP
- Donât find yourself getting out of a class only to find your battery has died.Â
- If your car is sluggish to start or if the dashboard lights or radio are giving you trouble, it may be a sign you need a new battery.Â
- Batteries only last three to five years, so if youâve had yours a long time, itâs probably time for a new one.Â
- If you find you need a replacement, your mechanic can test your battery during routine maintenance and oil changes.
Check your seatbeltsâand wear them.Â
- Buckle up and stay safe this school year. Simply wearing a properly fitted seatbelt saves thousands of lives each year.Â
- Itâs one of the most effective ways to avoid serious injury in an accident. Airbags alone are not enough to protect you.Â
- Make sure your seatbelt is secured tightly across the pelvis and rib cage.Â
Take a break and get your brakes checked
- Itâs no secret that your brakes are a crucial part of your drive.Â
- Worn brakes can make it hard to stop quickly and can cause your car to travel farther before coming to a halt â making it more likely youâll find yourself in an accident.Â
- To avoid that, a professional mechanic should check your vehicleâs brakes regularly, preferably as part of a routine maintenance check performed during regular oil changes.
Pack an emergency kit just in case
- Itâs never a bad idea to be prepared! Items youâll want to keep in your car in case of trouble include a flashlight, tire repair kit, first aid items, a basic tool kit (lug wrench, screwdriver, hammer), jumper cables, hazard triangle, a blanket, and even a small amount of cash.
If youâre in the market for a new vehicle, you understand how frustrating finding a new vehicle can be. However, when youâve finally narrowed down your choice, you get to do the fun part…test drive those vehicles! Test drives are really important to help you decide which vehicle is right for you! However, test drives can be overwhelming! With so many new features to try and lots of information being thrown at you, itâs easy to forget to ask questions or even pay attention to important details like how do you feel in the vehicle, how does it drive, and how will your passengers feel. But donât sweat it! This week, we have a checklist of important tips and tricks to help you remember what you should be looking for during your test drive! So take a minute to peek below, and even print out the checklist and bring it with you when you stop in to test drive!Â
Come Prepared
- Make sure youâve done your research and know exactly what youâre looking forÂ
- To prepare make sure you can answer these questionsâŚ
- What kind of space do you need?
- Do you feel like you have enough room?
- What kind of budget do you have?
- Once youâve answered those questions, itâs time to find 2 or 3 vehicles that fit the criteria youâre looking for.Â
- Once you have done that be sure to schedule test drives for those vehiclesÂ
How Do You Feel About The Vehicle?
- First impressions can have a big impact on your decision making. Donât just focus on the fun features the vehicle has, be sure to pay attention to how you feel inside the vehicle.Â
- A few things to ask yourself during your test should beâŚ
- Can you see yourself driving this vehicle daily?
- Do you feel like you have enough room?
- Is it easy to get in and out of?
- Do you like the placement of the controls?
- Is it what you expected?
Take Your Test Drive In Familiar TerritoryÂ
- If the dealership is local this should be easy, if not, take it on the highway and down back roads/ neighborhood or area that is similar to your area.Â
- Make sure to test it both busy and light traffic, and be sure to park the car to see how different it is from your old vehicle.Â
Test ALL Of The Features
- You might think you need the backup camera or other fun available features, but they wonât be worth it if you donât know how to use them. Donât be afraid to ask your sales consultant to show you how to use them and be sure to try them out on the road!
Take A Seat In Every Seat
- Even if youâll be spending most of your time in the driverâs seat, itâs important to try out the vehicle from every perspective…you wouldnât want your passengers to be uncomfortable, right?
- Sit in the passenger seat, the back seat, fold down the second row, pop the trunk, look under the hood. Explore every different way the vehicle might be used to make sure that it will work for you and your needs.
Now youâve got the keys to a successful test drive, so the time to schedule your Nissan test drive is here! Browse our available inventory and specials to find the vehicle that works best for your lifestyle.
