Check your Coolant How-To
It is important to stay on top of your vehicle’s maintenance. When you keep your vehicle in tip-top-shape it runs better, the value goes up, and you spend less money on repairs! We all know that the heart of your vehicle in the engine and we also know that if something happens to it you might find yourself spending a lot of money to fix it. Save yourself a headache and the hassle of bringing your vehicle to the shop and maintenance your vehicle regularly. Think about it, when you have a hard days work youâre tired, right? Same thing for your vehicle! Donât be afraid to roll up your sleeves and give your vehicle a little TLC. The first place you should start is under the hood.
One of the easiest tasks for you is to make sure that your vehicleâs coolant levels are in the proper spots. Coolant keeps your engine from overheating and is especially important in the winter months that aren’t too far away from us. So there is no better time than now to check those levels and get them to their appropriate levels. Not sure where the coolant reservoir is or even how to change the coolant? Donât stress Iâve got everything youâll need to know below. Check it out, you can thank me later!
Checking your coolant levels:
- Before putting anything into your vehicle, be sure to identify the correct reservoir. If you canât find it, check your owner’s manual
- Once you find the correct spot check to see if the coolant is in between the max and mon line. If it is below the min line fill it up to the max line or between the max and min.
- If the coolant needs topping up, don’t remove the filler cap unless the engine is cold â you could be scalded by a sudden release of pressurized hot water
- It’s not normal for the coolant level to drop; if you see that it has, get a garage to take a look

Donât Forget To Blinker!
Every car has one but not every driver uses it. Turn signals may be the most underutilized device in vehicles. Yet signaling is one of the most important actions you can make as a driver. By signaling you are warning other drivers of your impending moves to minimize hazardous surprises. Using a turning signal is actually quite easy, all you have to do is push the turning signal up or down depending on which direction you are choosing to goâŚ.So why is it so hard for people to use them? Is it laziness, forgetfulness, or just is we just donât feel the need to do so?! Regardless of why we donât use it, we have to start using it! There several reasons to use your turning signal, one of the most compelling is that it is illegal to not use your turning signal. Another is according to the Society of Automotive Engineers it is estimated that two million crashes per year are direct results of failure to signal! Avoid the head of dealing with a car crash and use your signals! If youâre unsure when it is appropriate to use your signal, have no fear I am here to save the day and throw some traffic knowledge at you so continue reading!
You should use your signal whenâŚ
Changing lanes:
- When you need to change lanes, turn on your turn signal first.
- This gives the cars around you ample time to slow down and prepare for you to get over.
- Then check your surroundings to make sure you have room to change lanes.
- Keep your turn signal on until you have gotten over completely, and then turn your signal off.
- Do not wait to signal until you are already in process of changing lanes.
Turning:
- Thereâs a big difference between slowing down to make a turn and slowing down because you realized you were speeding
- Turning right generally requires slowing down to almost a full stop (and turning left almost always requires coming to a full stop) to ensure you are making the turn at a safe speed and to assess your surroundings.
- Without your turn signal, the cars behind you are left to guess why you are breaking, and they may misjudge the situation.
Out of a side street:
- This important to let drivers know I youâre going left or right
- If youâre are turning right, you have the right away
- If youâre going left you donât have to wait for the other people to go first
At a Stoplight:
- If there is a turning lane signal that you are going into that lane and leave your signal on until youâve completed the turn
- If there is no turning lane it is especially important to use your signal so the cars around you know that you are turning

Trade-In Your Old Ride For A New One!
Are you looking to trade-in your old car for a shiny new one? Trading-in can sometimes be the hardest part of the car buying process, especially if you canât a dealer to give you the full value of your vehicle. But understanding how to trade in a car and how to gather offers will help you maximize your trade-in value and get a better overall deal. When you trade in your car, your old vehicleâs value is deducted from your new carâs price. To get the highest amount possible, it is essential to know you can negotiate the trade-in value and the new price separately.
There are four main parts to the trade-in process and I will break them down for you so you can get the full understanding of the whole process.
Price your trade-in:
- This part does require you doing some homework. The first step is to use online prices to help you estimate your carâs trade-in value.
- Be sure to include all the carâs options, the correct mileage, a realistic condition level and your ZIP code for the most accurate value.
Solicit Quotes For Your Trade-In:
- Be sure you have the following before you get trade-in quotes from dealerships
- Vehicle title (often called a âpink slipâ), Auto loan payoff and account information (if you have an auto loan), Current vehicle registration, Driverâs license, All vehicle keys
- To get quotes, call  or email dealerships
- Tell them you are looking to trade-in and want a fair price
- Most dealers will only give firm trade-in quotes after a physical inspection of the car
Choose An Offer:
- To get the best deal possible on your new car, youâll want to make sure both the trade-in value and sale price youâre offered are in line with those listed online
Close The Deal:
- The trade-in value is deducted from the new car price
- You then pay the remaining amount for the new car with cash or with an auto loan
- If youâre downsizing and your trade-in is worth more than the new car, the dealership will give you a check for the balance.
Still, Owe On Your Trade-In?:
- If the trade-in value is worth more than the remaining balance on your auto loan, this difference is credited to the sale price
- If you are upside-down on your car loan, meaning you owe more than the car is worth, you’ll pay the difference when you trade in

Neighborhood Driving Etiquette
It is important to be proactive about safety, especially in your neighborhood. As a society, we are fast paced people but there are places we need to slow down and the biggest is your neighborhood. Neighborhoods are full of all different kinds of people who use the streets, sidewalks, and crosswalks. Some people assume neighborhoods are a safe place to drive through, but on the contrary, there are a lot of potential hazards you could run into. One moment of carelessness or recklessness in a neighborhood could result in a costly accident.
Common Hazards
There are many different types of obstructions or hazards that drivers must watch out for in a neighborhood setting. These include:
- Children at play. Children often play in and around streets. They may suddenly run out in front of a car to chase a ball without looking.
- Roadway obstructions. Neighborhood streets can become crowded with all kinds of obstructions, such as parked cars, trash, and recycling bins, and bags of leaves or discarded materials. Children, pets, and others may dart out between parked cars or from behind obstructions without warning.
- Blind corners. Sometimes it can be hard to see around corners because of blocking trees, bushes, mailboxes, light poles, fences, or other obstructions.
- Pedestrians crossing. Kids walking to or from school or people walking around the neighborhood with kids or pets may cross the street at the corner or in the middle of the street, sometimes without looking both ways.
- Bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles. These two-wheeled vehicles have as much of a right to use the road as do automobiles.
Safety Tips
To avoid having an accident because of the above potential hazards, it is important for drivers to respect othersâ use of the road in residential areas and to do the following:
- Drive slowly. By driving at or under the reduced speed limit in neighborhoods you can prevent a severe accident.
- Exercise caution at intersections and turns. Look in all directions for potential hazards.
- Donât tailgate slower vehicles. Be polite towards bicycles and scooters and keep a safe following distance until you can clearly pass them at a passing distance of greater than three feet.
- Give pedestrians the right of way. Slow down or stop for them especially if there is a crosswalk.
- Use your lights. At night, always use your headlamps to illuminate the road.
Following these simple rules will help keep your neighborhood streets safer and help stop a heartbreaking accident from occurring.
