In 2013, filmmaker Luke Aker made a video featuring his 1996 Nissan Maxima that went along with a craigslist advertisement that he posted for the model. The video Ā went viral almost instantly, for its comedic approach at incorporating the look and feel of a luxury commercial with this older models in need of some serious TLC. As a result, the video’s popularity grew so quickly that it gained the attention of Nissan Motor Co., who then reached out to Aker to purchase the vehicle. Afterwards, Nissan chose to restore the model and display it at the North American headquarters in Tennessee following opinions collected from fans on social media.

ā€œThis Craigslist ad was hilarious and incredibly well done, so we jumped at the opportunity to pick it up and have some fun with it,ā€ said Erich Marx, Nissan Director of Interactive and Social Media Marketing. ā€œThanks to an overwhelming response from the online community, we decided to do a full restoration to the vehicle, ultimately resulting in this playful video.ā€

When the 1996 Nissan Maxima was fully restored, Nissan brought Aker back on board in order to have him create a second video outlining the unique journey of this model. In the videos above and below you can view the full story and see Aker’s videos ā€œLuxuryā€ and ā€œLuxury Restoredā€.

The U.S. Department of Defense has recently started a new vehicle-to-grid program being run along with the U.S. Air Force and the California Energy Commission at Los Angeles Air Force Base. In order to assist with this program, the Department of Defense will be deploying thirteen Nissan LEAF vehicles.

The all-electric Nissan LEAF is the perfect model to be utilized for this program because its electric power source will make it possible for the power coming to and from the grid to be directed by the Department of Defense. This model is already being used in a similar program in Japan powering houses with the “LEAF to Home” power supply system

“As the global leader in electric vehicle sales, Nissan is researching ways to integrate the all-electric LEAF into homes, buildings and power grids to unlock new value that could provide future benefits to customers, businesses and utility companies alike,” said Toby Perry, director of Marketing for Nissan LEAF. “With projects such as the Los Angeles Air Force Base fleet, Nissan can gather valuable insights to ensure that our vehicles are ready when similar programs are deployed by utilities or other entities on a larger scale.”
