New Nissan Kicks Concept Car Makes Debut
The new Nissan Kicks Concept Car designed for and inspired by the Brazilian market was recently unveiled at the annual São Paulo International Motor Show. Nissan designers stated that the new look and feel of this model was inspired by the people of Brazil. They wanted to create a vehicle that would reflect their culture and personality while offering a stark contrast to the black, white and grey tones of the urban roads.
Additionally, the three different design teams working on this model; Nissan Design America Rio, Global Design Center in Japan and Nissan Design America in San Diego also aimed to create a model that offers customers the perfect combination of style and functionality.
“What we try to achieve is this kind of duality. It fits your pragmatic needs but also provides a sense of style and an extra sense of substance that we feel is missing in the market right now,” said Project Lead Designer Hiren Patel of Nissan Design America.

Continuing on with its more than twenty years of assisting nonprofit organizations within the U.S., the Nissan Foundations recently began accepting applications for the 2015 grant year. Ever since the Foundation was first established back in 1992 they have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money to various U.S. based non-profit organizations each year. In total, the Nissan Foundation has contributed nearly $8 million in grants over the years to more than 100 organizations. In the 2014 grant year alone a total of $715,000 was given out to 31 different organizations.
“The Nissan Foundation is committed to enriching people’s lives in places where Nissan operates,” said Vicki Smith, executive director of the Nissan Foundation. “We want to work with nonprofit partners that are developing innovative, relevant programs – ones that help people to have a greater respect for the benefits that come from living and working together in a diverse society.”
Friday, November 21, 2014 is the deadline for submitting applications for the 2015 grant year. Interested nonprofits must submit an application along with a Letter of Intent (LOI) by that date to be considered. In order to be eligible the organization must have already been in existence for more than three years.
The 2014 Nissan LEAF SL has been named as a top “Roomy Electric” vehicle pick in the November buyer’s guide of Good Housekeeping. When selecting models to include in the buyers guide each year, Experts at Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) consider several vehicle aspects such as performance on track, suburban and highway roads and ergonomics and convenience features. For the 2014 Nissan LEAF SL, experts noted the model’s “impressive” cruising range and class-exclusive Around View Monitor as key factors for this model’s inclusion on the list.
The 2014 Nissan LEAF gets its power by an advanced lithium-ion battery and an 80kW motor which, fully charged, can travel up to 84 miles. This model also has three trim level options and an EPA estimate of 126 MPGe city/ 101 MPGe highway*. A few available features on the SL include leather seats, 17-inch alloy wheels and 7-speaker BOSE® energy efficient audio system.
“As more than 64,000 American LEAF owners will tell you, the economics of going electric are simple: Buy a Nissan LEAF and save money by conveniently charging at home instead of paying more at the gas pump,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing and Operations, U.S. “But the real beauty of the Nissan LEAF is that it’s roomy and, best of all, fun to drive, which is why it received this honor from the Good Housekeeping Research Institute.”
*2015 EPA Fuel Economy Estimate 126 city, 101 highway. Based on EPA formula of 33.7 kW/hour equal to one gallon of gasoline energy, EPA rated the LEAF® equivalent to 126 MPG measured as gasoline fuel efficiency in city driving, and 101 MPG in highway driving. Actual mileage may vary with driving conditions — use for comparison only. 2015 EPA range of 84 miles.

For more than a decade the Nissan Altima V8 Supercar Kelly brothers Todd and Rick have been making an annual roadtrip out to the legendary Bathurst race in Mount Panorama. Each year, the duo makes the trip in a different Nissan model. Last year they made the trip in the Nissan G60 and this year they are heading out in a rare Nissan Bluebird TRX.
“This year we have the George Fury-inspired Bluebird, complete with Nissan racing stripes. Hopefully it gets us to Bathurst nice and relaxed” Rick Kelly said.
This George Fury-inspired bluebird is an especially significant choice as this year marks the 30th anniversary of Fury’s 1984 record-breaking, pole-sitting lap time win at Bathurst 1000. The Bluebird being used on the road trip was loaned to the Kellys by owner Peter Rowlston who also fully restored the model.
“This is one of the more comfortable cars that we’ve taken, so we’re looking forward to the trip. It always allows us the time to get in the right frame of mind for the big race” Todd Kelly said.
