Adam Levine Celebrated “Red Thumb Day”
Maroon5 frontman and judge on ABC’s “The Voice” Adam Levine recently led the movement for the first official “Red Band Day” along with Nissan Motor Company. The entire concept of this day was to encourage drivers to stop texting while driving and bring awareness to the danger this behavior causes. Statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation indicate that each year cell phone use by drivers cause 1.6 million crashes.
“The statistics are alarming. According to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, a quarter of teens respond to a text message once or more every time they drive. Twenty percent of teens and 10 percent of parents admit that they have extended, multi-message text conversations while driving,” said Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. “Together with Adam Levine, Nissan encourages drivers to put the phone down and get where they are going safely. A ‘Red Thumb Reminder’ may seem insignificant. However, every time you see it, it reminds you to not text and drive.”
“Red Thumb Day” was celebrated with small red bands that drivers wore on their thumbs serving as a reminder to not text and drive and advertising to other drivers and passengers that they were supporting this important initiative. The idea for this new movement was inspired by the “Red Thumb Reminder” program launched by EVB Advertising’s Steve Babcock.

Drawings completed by children of workers from Nissan Brazil were recently turned into Concept Car sketches by Nissan Design America Rio (NDA-R). Back in October, the children created drawings depicting their idea of what future cars will look like as part of the “Automobile of the Future” created for Nissan Brazil’s Children’s Day. Once completed, the drawings were then judged by NDA-R.
A total of four drawings were chosen by the team, three winners for the best design and one honorable mention for a drawing that addressed the planet’s sustainability, one of nissan’s core platforms. The team then created actual concept car sketches inspired by these four winning drawings.
The children whose drawings were chosen include:
- Karine, a five-year old daughter of a worker from Resende Industrial Complex
- Sophya, a 10-year old daughter of a worker from Resende Industrial Complex
- Gabriela, a nine-year old daughter of a worker from Resende Industrial Complex
- Nathália (honorable mention), a 10-year old daughter of a worker from São José dos Pinhais’ Unity
“The joy of working with children is the opportunity to deal with freedom from all restrictions,” said Robert Bauer, designer-in-chief of Nissan Design America Rio (NDA-R). “There are no limits when it comes to the kids’ imagination. As professional designers, we can see through the imagination of a child and realize what is possible. Kids allow themselves to draw anything and change the perspective. They don’t think outside the box because they don’t have this ‘box.’ There is something refreshing in working with the kids – the joy of life and their sharp sense of recreating the world are very inspiring. In all the drawings recreated in our studio, we noticed a concern with people, the environment and its preservation. It was wonderful to share our studio with them because they are our future, and they create worlds adults could never imagine. It is an experience that brings us energy and makes us rethink our concepts.”
